SENIOR HURLING RETURNS TO WHITEHALL
Whitehall Colmcilles 2-17 Round Towers Clondalkin 2-9
Match : Wed 28th July 2010
From the first whistle the lads played like a division winning team should and never gave the Round Towers team any time to settle. Whitehall opened up a 4 point lead on the quarter hour mark and didn't look like losing the game from then on. Cormac Ryan produced the goods when needed with an outstanding double save in the second half. Dwyer, Moorsey (snr) and Neary were rock solid throughout in the full back line. Moorsey (jnr), Toast Mulvey and Gazza were unbeatable in the half back line with Mossy and Joey lording it in midfield. Ciaran, Scats and Jaymie won nearly every ball in the half forward line and Liamo (Benjamin Button as he is now known as he is definetly getting younger) Steo and Sean Ryan provided the vital scores. Conor O'Neill, Potser, Ollie, Troyser, Dave Ryan, Foxy, Liam Hoban, Sticky, Shane O'Neill and Declan Walsh provided the necessary back up if and when
required with the exiled John Bridgeman getting the campaign under way with some match winning performances. The lads were a credit to the club throughout the league with only one bleamish in the whole league campaign.
The support for the team over the year has been massive and we would hope that will continue as the year is by no means over as we have the championship still to play for. Johnny, Eamon, Shay and Padraig must take a huge amount of the credit for the success. Johnny has brought a calming, professional attitude to the team and it has showed throughout the year. A huge thanks must also go to previous managers Sean Moore, Mick Walsh and Noel O'Connor. It must be also noted that without the hard work of all the juvenile mentors who nursed the lads through so well this result would not have been possible and the club must take great pride in the fact that every member of the panel has been involved with the club
from a very early age.
This is undoubtedly the beginning of a bright future for the club as most of the team are fairly young (with one or two 'old sweats' backing them up) and with our juvenile teams excelling at the moment it is a very exciting time!
